| Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Scholarships for PhD 2021 |
In this post I want to share 3 type of scholarships that is offered for PhD or Doctoral degree from The University of Brunei Darussalam which are UBD Graduate Scholarship, UBD Graduate Research Scholarship, and UBD Bursary. Please read the detail below:
First Scholarship
The UBD Graduate Scholarship (UGS) is awarded to outstanding scholars, students and professionals to undertake graduate study and advanced research in Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The scholarship provides Bruneian and non-Bruneian candidates the unique opportunity to pursue their academic and research goals and network extensively with international researchers.

Eligibility
- Has at least a first class honours Bachelor degree with a distinction in Master degree or equivalent qualification.
OR
A second class upper honours Bachelor degree and a Master degree with a good publication record from and after undertaking the Master degree or equivalent qualification.
- A high quality and impactful research proposal.
- Fit to pursue studies in the area of choice.
Award
- Waived tuition fees, including registration and acceptance fees at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
- A subsistence allowance of BND 500.00 per month for 36 months.
- On-campus accomodation for 36 months.
- For candidates not residing in Brunei Darussalam, one round trip economy class air ticket will be provided from their home country upon accepting the scholarship and to their home country upon completion of their studies.
- Allowances for field research (BND 1000.00 for Arts and Humanities, and BND 2000.00 for Science candidates)

Second Scholarship
The UBD Graduate Research Scholarship (UGRS) is a competitive scheme awarded to quality PhD students with a strong desire to work in an international and competitive research-intensive environment. UBD is committed to opening doors to the brightest students to work among and network with our researchers to enrich their experience and equip them with the skills to maximise their talents.

Eligibility
- Has a Masters Degree and at least good Second Upper Degree in relevant field recognised by UBD Senate. For candidates without Masters Degree, a First Class Degree in relevant field recognised by UBD Senate is required.
- Able to demonstrate English Proficiency
- A high quality and impactful research proposal and able to demonstrate good academic track record.
- Fit to pursue studies in the area of choice.
Award
- Tuition fees including registration and acceptance fee at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam will be waived.
- A subsistence allowance of Brunei Dollar 1,500.00 per month for 36 months.
- For candidates not residing in Brunei Darussalam, one incoming and outgoing economy class return air ticket will be provided, from (upon accepting the scholarship) and back to home country (upon completion of study).
- Allowances for field research (Brunei Dollar 3,000.00 for per Science PhD candidates and Brunei Dollar 1,000.00 for Arts and Humanities PhD candidates).
- Visa fees will be included in the scholarship for candidates.
The UGRS will prioritise funding for high impact research within the priorities of UBD and Brunei including (but not limited to):

The UBD Bursary Award (UBD) is a funding scheme offered by Universiti Brunei Darussalam to Doctor of Philosophy applicants with the vision of providing access and opportunities for life-long learning.

1. Please fill in all the mandatory fields marked . You will not be able to save or submit the application if you missed any of them out.
2. Please make sure to fill in your email address correctly. After you save (to submit later) or submit this application form, your application code will be sent to the email address you provided.
3. Electronic documents required to be uploaded with this application includes: -
- Certified true copy of Brunei identification card or international passport
- Certified true copies of academic certificates [O Level, A Level, HND etc], including university transcripts (where applicable) and English proficiency qualification [IELTS, TOEFL, BEC etc]
- For international applicants: a security clearance letter from the country of origin
- For in-service applicants working in the private sector and Government sector (excluding Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs): a letter of permission from the employer
- Certified English translation must be submitted for document that are not in the English language (excluding Bahasa Melayu)
4. You will be able to download a PDF version of your filled application form upon a successful submission.
5. For Brunei Government employees, printed application forms must be submitted through the respective Ministry.
6. You are reminded to click 'SUBMIT' once you have completed the application. You must submit your application by the closing date for applications.
7. Once you submitted your online application, you are not required to submit any hardcopy. Only INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS are required to send certified true copies of your academic certificates by post to 'Office of Admissions, Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Tungku Link, Gadong BE1410, Brunei Darussalam'. Please quote your OASys Application Code on the envelope.

1. So, this is a different scholarship than Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarships (BDGS) that usually is opened on December until February and not only for UBD, but also for Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
2. These scholarships are only for PhD level as you can see on the table first image and the requirement is Master degree. It is wrong some websites that wrote scholarships for Bachelor, Master, and PhD.
3. Application can be made with application for admission through our online admission system (OASys) webpage.
4. The deadline for January 2021 intake is July 14, 2020.
