The Japanese Embassy in Indonesia and its Consulates in Surabaya, Medan, Denpasar and Makassar annually register and select the Monbukagakusho scholarship enthusiasts. The programs offered to Indonesian students are the Research Student Program for college graduates, Undergraduate, College of Technology and Professional Training College for high school graduates.

Research Students Program 2021

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho / MEXT) offers scholarships for those who want to study at postgraduate universities in Japan as research students.

Research students are research students under the guidance of professors in Japan who conduct research in their respective fields of expertise. The purpose of this program is to prepare foreign students to have the standard and quality of qualified research capabilities to continue their studies at the master / doctoral level.

Applicants can continue to the master / doctoral level if they pass the entrance examination, but can also directly enter the post-graduate program without a period of research students, if they get permission / have passed the entrance examination at universities in Japan.

Registration Period: June 23 - July 14, 2020

2. Living allowances of approximately ¥ 143,000 / month (research students), ¥ 144,000 / month (postgraduate students), ¥ 145,000 / month (S3 students).

University Recommendation (U to U) Pathways Research Students Program

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho / MEXT) offers scholarships for those who want to study at postgraduate universities in Japan as research students. Applicants can also directly take the S2 / S3 level without prior research students if they have obtained permission from a supervisor professor at a university in Japan.

Basically, there are two pathways to apply for Monbukagakusho Research Students programs, namely the Embassy Recommendation (G to G) pathway and the University Recommendation (U to U) pathway.

The Embassy Recommendation (G to G) path is the path for registration and the entire selection process is carried out by the Japanese Embassy, ​​while the University Recommendation (U to U) path is the path for which the selection process and registration procedures are carried out by universities in Japan without going through the Japanese Embassy.

Undergraduate Program (GAKUBU) 2021

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho / MEXT) offers scholarships for high school and senior high school graduates to continue their undergraduate education at Japanese universities.

Before going to university, scholarship recipients will study Japanese, mathematics, English, and social sciences (for those who choose social studies), and physics, chemistry, biology (for those who choose science studies) in preparatory schools for 1 year at Japan.

The total study period is 5 years (for those who choose the field of medical studies, the total study period is 7 years).

For applicants graduating in 2019 and the previous year (not for graduates in 2020).

Phase II: July 1 - 15, 2020
For 2020 applicants only (not for graduates in 2019 and the previous year).

College of Technology (KOSEN) Program 2021

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho / MEXT) offers scholarships for high school and equivalent graduates to continue their education to the College of Technology (Koto Senmon Gakko).

The College of Technology (KOSEN) is a school that focuses on technical studies consisting mostly of experiments and practical exercises. Graduates are expected to become engineers (engineers). The College of Technology (KOSEN) has a learning program designed for 5 years for junior high school graduates in Japan. But specifically for recipients of Monbukagakusho scholarships, they will enter the College of Technology (KOSEN) as third-year students.

After graduating from college, students can continue to the Undergraduate (S-1) level as a third year student. The period of receiving scholarships can also be extended depending on the achievements during college and the results of the selection.

Before studying at KOSEN, scholarship recipients will study Japanese at a preparatory school for 1 year in Tokyo, Japan. The total study period is 4 years (for those who choose the maritime engineering field of study, the total study period is 4.5 years).

Specialized Training College is a school that provides specialized expertise in certain fields. Graduates are expected to support a variety of industries that have high developing potential in the world market. Specialized Training College lasts for 2 years. After graduating from college, students can continue to the Undergraduate (S-1) level as a third year student. The period of receiving scholarships can also be extended depending on the achievements during college and the results of the selection.

Before studying at the Specialized Training College, scholarship recipients will study Japanese at a preparatory school for 1 year in Japan. The total study period is 3 years.
