The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) is an independent institute for learning and research in the fields of Social Sciences, Humanities, Public Administration, and Development Economics in Doha. Designated as a not-for-profit, private institution, the DI is operated exclusively for educational, research, and public service purposes. It was founded in 2014, as an autonomous legal entity, by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies. The DI is licensed as a national institution of higher education by the Supreme Education Council of Qatar.

Scholarships

Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers a wide variety of scholarships annually to attract academically qualified students from within and outside the State of Qatar. The scholarships vary, some are awarded based on merit and academic competition, while others are based on financial need.


Terms and Conditions for Doctoral Programs

1- Students who have previously benefited from the same scholarships shall not benefit from the scholarships offered by the Institute, whether they obtained the degree or not.
2- A student shall not combine the Institute's scholarship and any other scholarship, whatever its source, except with the prior approval of the Doctoral Studies. Board
3- Students who have obtained a full scholarship must commit, in return, to working for the Institute in the fields of research, teaching, and any other fields that are required of them, for not less than ten hours per week during the semester. The working hours of the partial grantees are determined in proportion to the value of the scholarship, on the condition that it does not exceed 15 hours per week.
4- In consultation with the programs and colleges, the Doctoral Studies Board determines the required fields of work. To continue to benefit from the Institute's scholarships, the obligations specified above must be fulfilled.


Admission requirements of the first phase:

1- The applicant must be accepted into the institution.
2- The applicant must be unable to afford the costs of pursuing a doctoral degree and has no other scholarships.
3- The scholarship covers two semesters during which the student must complete the courses of the first phase. In case of failing to complete them in that period, the student shall pay the additional fees as determined by the institution.

Admission Requirements of the second phase: (full-time to read the prospectus)

1- The student's GPA shall not be less than 3.5 in first-phase courses.
2- This scholarship covers one academic year.

Admission Requirements of the third phase: (Dissertation writing)

1- The student must complete the tasks of the prospectus phase and must pass the comprehensive test by the end of the second phase.
2- The scholarship covers two academic years, which can be extended by submitting a reasoned extension request and obtaining the approvals of the Director of the Doctoral Studies Board and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.


Scholarship Types for Ph.D. Programs

1- The scholarship of the first phase of Doctoral Studies; This scholarship is granted according to eligibility, and based on the criteria set forth below.
2- The scholarship of the second phase, which is a full-time reading of the prospectus. Obtaining it is linked to achieving a GPA of no less than 3.5 in the courses of the first phase.
3- Scholarship of the third phase, which is to prepare for the dissertation. Obtaining it is linked to passing the comprehensive examination.


Terms and Conditions for Master Programs

1) No student may combine the scholarships of the Institute with any other scholarship whatever the source thereof.
2) Only students who have good academic standing continue to benefit from the Institute's scholarships. The Institute may, Following its procedures withdraw scholarships from students who violate this requirement.
3) The scholarships offered by the Institute shall not benefit the students enrolled in the Executive Masters or Diploma programs or specialized certificates.
4) Scholarships offered by the Institute shall not benefit students who have previously benefited from the same scholarship in a previous period of study in any of the programs of the Institute, whether or not they are awarded a degree.

Scholarship Types for Master Programs

1) Tamim Scholarship
These scholarships are based on merit and academic excellence. It is dedicated to the most distinguished Qatari and international students in the Arab world. The scholarship includes full tuition fees coverage, International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and two travel tickets from and to their home country upon arrival and after graduation. 

2) Sanad Scholarship 
These scholarships are based on the financial needs of students. It is dedicated to Qatari, Residents in Qatar, and international students. The scholarship includes covering a program's fees (10 to 100 %). International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having their full tuition fees covered, in addition to free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and two travel tickets from and to their home country upon arrival and after graduation.

How to Apply for a scholarship

All admitted students can apply for a scholarship through the scholarship application form. The Admissions Office sends the application form to all eligible students. Students are allowed to apply with all official and required documents.

Admission Conditions

1. The applicant SSSH and Development Economics must have earned a bachelor's degree (Full-time study) or its equivalent in the last five years, EXCEPT applicants for the Journalism, Conflict Management and Humanitarian Action, Critical Security Studies, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work and Human Rights programs and the rest of the SPADE programs. 
2. Students in their final BA year are eligible to apply for admission if they obtain their final degrees by August 1st of the same year.
3. The applicant must be able to study and research academically in Arabic with a measure of English language proficiency, note that speakers of languages other than Arabic will be invited to take an Arabic test (oral and written) before admission.
4. Applicants can submit one application only. Duplicate applications will be disregarded.
5. The priority in admission to the History program is for applicants with a Bachelor of History or Sociology & Anthropology or Political Sciences.
6. The Priority in admission to the Social Work program is for applicants who have professional or volunteer experience not less than two years after finishing their university studies.
7. The priority in admission to the Clinical Psychology program is for applicants with a Bachelor of Psychology.
8. Applicants of Executive Master of Public Administration must have a cumulative experience of 5 to 10 years working in public or non-profit organizations, and at least 3 years of management experience at the middle or senior management level.
9. Scholarships are not available for executive programs. All admitted students will commit to the timely payment of tuition fees or provide proof of sponsorship from their employer or a government entity in Qatar.

Admission Requirements

1. Copy of official identification (Passport for International students - Qatari ID for citizens and residents of Qatar).
2. A bachelor's degree certified by official authorities.
3. Undergraduate transcripts certified by official authorities including all transferred courses if any. Senior year students submit their latest transcripts.
4. A minimum of TWO references from academics familiar with the applicant's work is requested via the online application form. An additional letter of recommendation may be submitted by a supervisor from previous employment.
5. Submit a valid minimum IELTS academic score of 5.5 or TOEFL iBT scores of 59.
* The student Is exempt from the English language requirement If he obtained a bachelor's degree from one of the American, British, Canadian, or Australian universities or their overseas branches, or from Qatari universities that adopt the English language as a teaching path. Proofed by an official statement stating that the bachelor's degree was taught in English as a main language of instruction.
* Graduation requirement an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL iBT score of 79. Admitted students with an IELTS score of 5.5 or 6 are required to satisfy the graduation requirement during their study at the Institute. The student is exempted if he or she submits the test again during the study and achieves the score required for graduation.
* Applicants of Executive Master of Public Administration are exempted from submitting the English admission test. However, the graduation requirement applied by submitting an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent during the study at the Institute.
6. All official transcripts should be translated into Arabic or English.
7. A personal statement (Content and Instruction File)
8. Academic Essay only for applicants to the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (Content and Instruction File)
9. Updated curriculum vitae (CV).
10. EMBA EMPA students can upload GRE / GMAT score reports
11. Applicants of Executive Master of Public Administration should submit an experience certificate from their employer stating that they have at least 3 years of experience as a manager or its equivalent.

Personal Statement

In 750 to 1000 words (Arabic only), please tell us why you wish to study at DI and what are your expectations from the institute. Please make sure your statement highlights:
• Your areas of perceived academic strength and weakness as well as languages proficiency and why you think you are qualified to study at the Institute.
• Any Academic or practical experiences you went through and believe contributed to building your capabilities and motivations as a researcher and scholar in the future.
• Your future career plans and career aspirations
Important: Your Personal Statement must be original. Special attention must be given to proper citation of any sources used. Please note that DI does not tolerate plagiarism or any other or academic dishonesty. DI checks all writing samples for plagiarism and reserves the right to dismiss any applicant or admitted student who commits an academic honesty violation.

For Both Master and Ph.D. degrees, please read the following instructions carefully:

1. Create an application on the DI admission portal.
2. Applicants can submit one application only. duplicate applications will be disregarded.
3. Applicants can save their application progress and apply in several sessions.
4. Applicants are required to upload all application materials via the online portal.
5. Applicants can request references online via the online application system.
6. Referees receive the reference request automatically and can fill out the reference forms online.
7. Applicants can check the status of their references online and can remind a referee or create a new reference request even after the submission of the application.

For Doctoral degrees, the application attachments are as follows:

1. A Copy of official identification (Passport for International students - Qatari ID for citizens and residents of Qatar).
2. A bachelor's and master's degree certified by official authorities.
3. A bachelor's and master's transcripts certified by official authorities including all transferred courses if any.
4. A Copy of a valid IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT test score.
5. A copy of the master's Thesis, Capstone, or Research sample.
6. A copy of the statement of interest.
7. A copy of the preliminary doctoral dissertation proposal.
8. A minimum of THREE academic reference letters to be sent via the online application form.
9. GRE test scores.
10. A copy of updated curriculum vitae (CV).

For Master degrees, the application attachments are as follows:

1. Identification document: Qatari ID for citizens and residents of Qatar or Passport for international students.
2. Undergraduate transcripts. Senior year students should submit all their obtained transcripts to date.
3. Graduation certificate or diploma for graduates.
4. Resume (CV).
5. TOEFL or IELTS or DELF B2 results or official statement stating that the degree was taught in English as a main language of instruction.
6. Personal Statement.
7. Academic Essay (for applicants to the School of Social Sciences and Humanities).

Application for admission will be available from September 1, 2022, to January 20, 2023.
